We have recently completed a comprehensive, end-to-end workshop installation for a leading national automotive brand in Coventry, delivering a fully operational, future-ready facility designed to meet increasing service demand and support long-term business growth. The project, over 1 year in the making, emphasises what we do best at Straightset: act as a single, trusted delivery partner, managing every stage of workshop development, from initial consultation and design through to installation and even on-site training.
The customer’s existing workshop, located at a neighbouring site, had been operating at full capacity for some time. The growing customer volumes, combined with the ongoing pressure to maintain high service standards, meant that having additional workshop space was essential. When a suitable unit became available adjacent to the existing workshop, the option to expand operations was clear, and Straightset was the obvious choice to make that happen.

When we began this design project, early engagement and site visits were one of the most critical steps. At this stage, every aspect of the project going forward is shaped; it’s the beginning point of workshop layout, which not only needs to address immediate capacity issues but also deliver long-term value. A particular consideration in this project was the need for smooth vehicle flow, easy technician movement, health and safety, and the efficient positioning of equipment to minimise downtime between jobs. These considerations were essential in transforming this once-empty unit into a fully compliant, efficient workshop capable of integrating seamlessly with already established operations.
At the heart of this workshop fitting was the installation of seven 2-post lifts. This was one of the most essential features within the workshop, as so many lifts were necessary not only to increase workshop capacity but to streamline workflow, giving engineers the freedom to use the bays for a range of different jobs within the workshop, without having to move the vehicle to different stations, which can be incredibly time-consuming.

In addition to this, we oversaw the installation of a fully equipped Class IV MOT and wheel alignment facility. This included a recessed 4-post lift, which could be used for both MOT and alignment services, complete with a jacking beam, brake tester, emissions tester, and Supertracker CCD Wheel Alignment system, enabling the bay to serve dual purposes and maximise utilisation of available floor space. We also supplied a range of supporting infrastructure essential to modern workshop operations, including an exhaust fume extraction system, a lubrication system and a prefabricated steel cabinet designed and manufactured in-house to house the waste oil collection point, highlighting the bespoke nature of this installation project.

The entire project was overseen by our Sales Manager, Daniel Hoyle, who, in reflection, commented: “From the outset, this project required a fully coordinated approach to work alongside other contractors on site and deliver a successful outcome. Our team engineered the layout to optimise vehicle flow, ensure compliance and maximise the commercial return for the client. Seeing the workshop become fully operational and immediately add value to the customer’s business is exactly what Straightset aims to achieve with every project.”
The completed workshop has enabled the customer to significantly increase servicing capacity, easing pressure on the original site and reducing customer backlogs. Improved layout efficiency and modern equipment have enhanced day-to-day productivity, created additional revenue opportunities and allowed for faster turnaround times, all of which have helped to not only improve overall customer satisfaction but also allow the business to maximise return on investment from the new space.
Beyond the immediate operational benefits, projects like these are hugely important to us as they help to strengthen our relationships with our customers, no matter how large or small their businesses are. In every installation project, we work closely with our customers in detailed consultation to fully understand operational needs, service volumes, vehicle types and future growth plans and ensure the workshop we create is bespoke and fulfils all customer needs. The successful delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary installations is what we do at Straightset, so you can rest assured that we have you covered as a one-stop workshop solution.
